County GOP comes out roaring – Daily

For anyone who expected Cook
County Republicans to be sacrificial lambs in seeking countywide office, they
sounded more like hungry lions at the opening of their two-day convention in
Rosemont Friday. "We are soldiers," said Roger Keats, slated as the party's
endorsed candidate for County Board president. "We are taking on what has been
an army that has controlled this state for a decade now and controlled this
county for almost a half-century."

County GOP trying again for resurgence – Chicago

Cook County Republicans
looked to re-establish themselves as a viable alternative to the one-party rule
of Democrats today by promoting their slated countywide candidates and vowing a
higher ethical standard and lower property taxes. “We stand here to offer a
voice for voters--a voice that we’re going to put an end to pay-to-play politics
here in Cook County,” Lee Roupas, the GOP county chairman, said in opening the
group’s two-day convention at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in
Rosemont.

initial observations post-Cook County GOP Convention - Illinois

…. Cook County Republicans
are revved up and ready to take on the Democrats. For Republicans in Cook
County, it may mean simply kicking the voter turnout up a few percentages in
2010 that could mean a huge reversal of what happened in Cook County in 2006.
And with 50% of the state's Republicans in Cook County, it matters what happens
there.

It appeared that about 1,000
participants had come and gone during the day…The morning got off to a rousing
start with GOP Chairman Lee Roupas addressing the gathered crowd. Roupas really
ginned up the attendees with a rousing address promising that the Cook County
GOP is a new party, a vital party, one that can take on the corruption plagued
Democrats and make a dent in the upcoming 2010 elections.
